Defeat at home to Schalke: Shakhtar Donetsk lose 5-1 to Bayern Munich

No points for Shakhtar Donetsk in the sixth match of the league phase of the Champions League. On Tuesday evening (10.12.), the Ukrainians suffered a clear 1:5 defeat against FC Bayern Munich in Gelsenkirchen.

Shakhtar first took an early lead through Kevin's goal (5'), but the German record champions equalized just a few minutes later through Konrad Laimer (11'). Shortly before the half-time whistle, Thomas Müller made it 2:1 for Munich (45'). After the break, head coach Vincent Kompany's side remained the dominant team in the Arena AufSchalke. In the 70th minute, Michael Olise scored from the penalty spot before Jamal Musiala made it 4-1 with his goal (87'). In the third minute of stoppage time, it was Olise again who netted to make the final score 1:5.

Despite the defeat, head coach Marino Pusic's team can still hold out hope of reaching the play-offs. Shakhtar Donetsk will welcome Stade Brest to the Arena AufSchalke on Wednesday, January 22, 2025 in the final home match of the league phase in the top flight. The match kicks off at 18:45.
