FC Schalke 04, with its pitch in the VELTINS-Arena, is one of three clubs to be honored by the DFL with the "Pitch of the Year" award in the Bundesliga 2. Holstein Kiel and SV Darmstadt 98 can also be pleased.
The fans of the Royal Blues who purchased a piece of the promotion turf on Saturday (4.6.) can be doubly pleased with this award. Not only do they have a piece of last season's history, they also have the second-best turf of the past year in the 2nd Bundesliga at home.
Since 2013/2014, the DFL has presented the "Pitch of the Year" awards to the most beautiful green spaces of all Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 clubs. The assessment is divided into three parts. Firstly, the measurement data is evaluated by the club's own greenkeeping team during the season. Secondly, the captains of the participating clubs and the referees assess the matchday form of the pitches on each match day. The third part of the assessment is carried out by a three-member jury from the DFL expert commission for ensuring pitch quality in Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 stadiums.
The winners will be officially honored in August at the information meeting for the clubs' greenkeepers.
