Biathlon WTC: Franziska Preuß and Philipp Nawrath compete in Schalke

It's now official: Franziska Preuß and Philipp Nawrath will be the second German team to take part in the bett1.de Biathlon World Team Challenge. This means that the German Ski Association will now be sending its two most experienced athletes into the biathlon cauldron at Schalke on Saturday, December 28.

In addition to Team "Shootingstar" with Vanessa Voigt and Justus Strelow, who each won the unofficial shooting ranking of all World Cup participants last winter, the DSV is relying on Team "Experience" this year. Both Preuß and Nawrath have been part of the World Cup establishment for many years and therefore know how to deal with pressure. This ability will be necessary to be able to compete for one of the podium places in front of tens of thousands of fans in the VELTINS Arena.

Special biathlon experience for athletes and spectators

"Schalke is not your typical biathlon competition," explains Franziska Preuß, who has already stood on the winners' podium in Gelsenkirchen together with biathlon and life partner Simon Schempp. "It's a real experience not only for the spectators, but also for us athletes. That's exactly why I've signed up for this year".

Despite the packed competition calendar, as always, the 30-year-old made a conscious decision to take part in the biathlon in Schalke: "It's always a bit of a risk, but I just really want to be there again and compete for the podium with Phillipp."

Preuß and Nawrath aim for the podium

Although team-mate Philipp Nawrath is now one of the longest-serving DSV athletes in the World Cup team, this does not dampen his motivation and anticipation. On the contrary: "I'm really looking forward to being able to run into this great stadium atmosphere after every lap. I have a really great partner in Franzi this year. And I hope that together we will be a powerful team. It's been eight years since a German duo won at Schalke. So it's high time to change that."
