Home win for Shakhtar Donetsk: Ukrainians beat Young Boys Bern 2:1

Three points for the Ukrainian champions: On Wednesday evening (6.11.), Shakhtar Donetsk welcomed Swiss record champions Young Boys Bern to the Arena AufSchalke for their second Champions League home game. In the end, Shakhtar secured their first home win in the current league phase.

In a competitive opening phase, it was the team of head coach Marino Pusic who set the first exclamation mark of the match with an offside goal in the 9th minute. After further great chances for the hosts, Kastriot Imeri then netted for the Swiss side in the 27th minute to give them a 1:0 lead.

The hosts responded just a few minutes later. In the 31st minute, Oleksandr Zubkov scored to make it 1:1. Shortly before the break, Heorhij Sudakov even turned the game around in the 41st minute after a remarkable solo run to make it 2:1.

After the break, both teams continued to make their mark in attack, but this was not enough to change the 2:1 final score.

With their first home win at Schalke, Shakhtar Donetsk can now keep their hopes of reaching the play-offs alive. In just under three weeks, the Ukrainians will face PSV Eindhoven away from home before taking on Bayern Munich in the Arena AufSchalke on December 10 at 9 pm.
