There are few people in German soccer who are as well-known as Rudi Assauer. As a legendary manager, the 73-year-old has earned a reputation far beyond the sport.
Rudi Assauer not only shaped an era at the Royal Blues in Gelsenkirchen-Schalke. As a manager and, above all, as a person, he has challenged and encouraged generations of players.
"Rudi Assauer. Maker. Man. Legend." tells the story of the passionate footballer and is also much more than a soccer film.
As Rudi Assauer himself is no longer available for interviews due to his Alzheimer's disease, the film uses carefully researched and selected archive clips to tell the story of his eventful life, mirrored by the stories of his closest companions.
The well-known filmmaker Don Schubert ("Under Suspicion", "The Germans", etc.) has managed in an impressive way to get many people from Rudi Assauer's closest environment in front of the camera: From his twin sister Karin Assauer to Gerald Asamoah, his eldest daughter Bettina Michel, his manager colleague Reiner Calmund, Rudi's management stepson and successor Andreas Müller and his right-hand woman Sabine Söldner - over 19 interviewees talk about Rudi Assauer in their very own and highly personal way.
Just in time for the 114th birthday of FC Schalke 04, the world premiere and an associated world record attempt will take place.
The previous world record for a cinema film has stood since October 4, 2015. 43,624 people were in attendance at the Philippine Arena in Ciudad de Victoria.
The makers of the film want to "break" this world record and will do everything in their power to attract at least 43,625 spectators to the VELTINS Arena.
